In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amanda Wei

Student
Amanda Wei is a 13 year old 7th grader at AISG. She was born in Hong Kong and currently lives in Guangzhou. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends, playing sports, discovering new hobbies, and watching the sunset.

Darcie Flansburg

Teacher
Darcie Flansburg M.A., ME.d., is a Secondary English Language and Literature teacher at AISG. Originally from California, she has been living and teaching in China for 9 years. Prior to that she taught in public high schools in America. When she's not teaching she's attempting to write her own literature and traveling the world with her husband, Mr. Ulhaq.

Dominika Kurek

Dominika Kurek, originally from Poland, is a current senior at AISG, and has spent the past decade in Guangzhou. Her hobbies include reading, making to-do lists, and staying home, whenever possible

Eduardo Diaz

Student
Eduardo Diaz is a 9th grader at AISG. This is his fourth year living in Guangzhou. He was born in the US to Nicaraguan parents and was previously in an international school in Doha, Qatar, for six years. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, practicing soccer, and learning about various topics and sports.

Gary Kennedy

Teacher
Gary is the Wellbeing coach at AISG, and founder of ThinkWell, where he gets to help people figure things out and reach their goals. During the day, he works with faculty and staff, and, in the evening, with people from around the world, helping them with everything from stress and self-doubt to big life decisions. He's all about personal and professional growth – helping people discover what they're good at and how to use those strengths to build a life they love. In his free time, he loves travelling the world (camera in hand), with his wife, Dr. Fielder, exploring new cultures, and capturing amazing moments.

Henry Li

Student
Henry Li is currently a sophomore at AISG, where he's known for participating in student council, vlogging, and consistently acting like an NPC. In his free time, he often likes to ponder about personal development or thought-provoking concepts, which allows him to bring his original and unique ideas onstage tonight.

Mika Goldman Shayman

Mika Goldman Shayman is an 18 years old AISG alumni, who currently volunteers at the school. In her free time, she likes pursuing "grandma activities", including baking, knitting, sighing dramatically, and reading as many books as humanly possible.

Rodrigo Diaz

Rodrigo Diaz is from Nicaragua where he grew up as a student at the American Nicaraguan School. He holds a Bachelor's in Business and Economics and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a parent of a 9th grader at AISG and this is his 4th year enjoying this community in Guangzhou.

Vedant Anchalia is a 6th Grader who spends his free time, Playing basketball, learning to code, reading, or playing video games on his Nintendo Switch.

Zak Gendin

Zak Gendin is a tenth grade student from the U.S. and has lived in seven countries. He participates in cross country, table tennis, and badminton. Outside of school, Zak enjoys climbing and spending time in nature.
