Elias Mellander

Associate Professor, University of Gothenburg
As Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg and co-author of "Fashionable detachments: wardrobes, bodies and the desire to let go," Elias Mellander illuminates the fascinating intersection of fashion, identity, and consumer behavior. His research offers remarkable insights into why we all struggle with overstuffed wardrobes yet still feel we have "nothing to wear," revealing the cultural norms and social expectations that quietly shape our shopping habits and attachment to clothing. At TEDxGöteborg Countdown, Elias will present eye-opening research that explains the emotional and symbolic meaning clothes hold in our lives, from identity markers to memory vessels. His observations on how garments influence our sense of belonging and self-expression will have you nodding in recognition of your own relationship with fashion. Beyond carbon footprints and supply chains, could understanding these psychological patterns be the missing piece in our sustainability puzzle?

Maja Nellström & Matilda Lidfeldt

Project Managers
As project managers at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Maja Nellström & Matilda Lidfeldt bring razor-sharp scientific precision to the often-confusing world of fashion sustainability. With expertise in lifecycle assessment and environmental impact, this dynamic duo has been systematically investigating what really happens when textiles are reused, recycled, or incinerated across Europe. At TEDxGöteborg Countdown, they'll shatter common climate myths surrounding your wardrobe, revealing which phase of a garment's lifecycle causes the most environmental damage, and it's probably not what you think. Are your well-intentioned fashion choices actually helping the planet, or might you be focusing on entirely the wrong solutions? Prepare to have your assumptions challenged and your consumer habits transformed.

Nana Sacko

Project Manager, Textile Movement Talent
After years of working in the conventional fashion industry, Nana Sacko boldly transitioned to hands-on work with circular solutions, aligning with her core values to redefine discarded textiles as invaluable resources. Now, as Project Manager of Textile Movement Talent at Lindholmen Science Park, she drives and supports emerging fashion talents and entrepreneurs across Västra Götaland in developing circular business models within fashion and textiles, guided by creativity, community, and innovative circular solutions. At TEDxGöteborg Countdown, Nana will showcase how textile “waste” can become tomorrow’s invaluable resource and how the transformation of the textile industry is affecting tomorrow’s fashion designers. Through her work matchmaking talented designers with industry professionals, resources, and community, she demonstrates that circular solutions and re-design play an important role in the transformation of the entire textile industry.
