Join us for “Resilience”—a salon space for community, connection, and strategies for resilience with Karen Oehme, director of the Institute for Trauma & Resilience Studies.

We’ll have snacks, arts and crafts, reflection walks on the labyrinth, and other self-care activities from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Dunlap Success Center. View TED talks related to resilience beginning at 11 a.m., then pick up a copy of the Student Resilience Toolkit and join Karen Oehme’s session on resilience in the wake of adverse events beginning at noon.

Karen Oehme

Director, Institute for Trauma & Resilience Studies at Florida State University
As a researcher at Florida State University since 1998, Karen Oehme has been the director of the FSU Institute for Trauma & Resilience Studies since 2007. Oehme’s research and development team builds large-scale projects and specializes in interactive, web-based learning to promote research-based knowledge on crucial subjects. The team's research interests all intersect with themes of trauma and resilience. Their FSU Student Resilience Project received a 2019 award for solutions to campus problems by the American Association of University Administrators. Oehme's scholarly work has been published in many journals, including Harvard Journal of Law and Gender, Stanford Law and Policy Review, Innovative Higher Education, and the Journal of American College Health. Oehme earned her law degree from Florida State University and served as a staff attorney at Legal Services of North Florida and the Guardian ad Litem Program. She is a member of the Florida Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar.
